Best Way to Get Rid of Carpenter Ants

By bwgwp | Carpenter Ant Removal | Comments are Closed | 7 June, 2018 | 0

Carpenter ants are small black ants that nest in wood and are becoming a problem in the Massachusetts area. Carpenter ants will hollow out sections of wood to create tunnels they can move through. A carpenter ant infestation can damage the structure of a home and cause costly damage. Making sure that you take care of a carpenter ant problem quickly is essential to avoid any damage to the wood that they’re nesting in.

Identify a Carpenter Ant Infestation

Correctly identifying a pest you’ve found in your home is the first step in successful pest removal. Carpenter ants are small, between .24” – .5” long and colors have been known to be black, brown or a little red. They can live both inside and outside and feed on the same food that humans eat. If carpenter ants have found a way into your home they will most likely also reach your kitchen where they’ll take a variety of different foods but prefer sweets and meat.

This can sometimes lead to carpenter ants being confused with other types of ant which results in the wrong type of pest treatment or no treatment at all. Biggins Exterminating offers professional pest inspections so we can ensure we’re targeting the right type of pest with our treatment. Carpenter ants like to nest in damp, dead wood so we’ll be able to identify any problem areas and see if carpenter ants are actually the problem.

A long-term carpenter ant infestation can cause serious structural damage to a home and unsightly cosmetic damage. Older homes in the Boston area are particularly vulnerable because carpenter ants regularly build nests in old and decaying wood. Homes that have moisture issues due to leaks in the past are normally the first homes in an area carpenter ants will target. Any unsealed opening on the exterior of a home is a place carpenter ants could enter and cause significant damage.
